Briton arrested for phone theft

A BRITON claiming to be hard up on Wednesday narrowly survived a mob after he grabbed a sleek cell phone from a Kampala city shop and ran away.

Wearing a black shirt, matching trousers and white shoes, Robert Hobson, 55, a retired British Airways engineer, walked to a shop and asked for a phone.

“He asked the attendants if they had a BlackBerry phone that would enable him access the Internet,” Monday Johnson Agaba, the Central Police Station crime chief, told The New Vision. The shop, Nokia Phones, is located on Kirumira Towers on William Street in Kampala.

An attendant, Barbara Ruth Sseruga, handed Hobson the BlackBerry phone worth sh450,000. “As soon as the attendants handed him the phone, he walked out of the shop without paying for it,” Agaba stated.

He hurried out of the building but Sseruga and colleagues made an alarm as they chased the haggard-looking Hobson. He was cornered near Radio One on Dastur Street.

The man appeared before the Buganda Road magistrate, Matthias Tumwijuke, and pleaded guilty and was given a caution.

Caution, really? I bet you that if it were a Ugandan, he would have been roughed up and placed in the back of a police patrol truck and would have to endure kicks from police boots enroute to remand. Shouldn't this guy have been remanded then deported:

That's what they would have done back in his land

Museveni, Kikwete for Nyerere sainthood

PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni and his Tanzanian counterpart, Jakaya Kikwete, have supported the crusade to declare former Tanzanian president Julius Nyerere a saint.

The two presidents yesterday attended a special service for Nyerere at the Namugongo Martyrs’ Shrine and testified to his goodness, which they said should qualify him for sainthood.

“I am a witness to Nyerere’s devotion. The Bible is clear. It says we shall know them by their fruits not by their words. Tanzania is a country of Christians, Muslims and animists but Mwalimu (Nyerere) was able to unite them by demonstrating that they are all children of God,” Museveni said. ........Will the same be said about you, Mr. President?

“We should continue praying that Nyerere reaches the next stage of being declared blessed of God, and then saint,” he said. ........Transfer this zeal to the fight against corruption

All those in favour of Saint Museveni say aye....

..was that a pin drop?

68% want Museveni to quit in 2011

Ugandans are generally satisfied with the way President Museveni has led the country but almost seven out of every 10 citizens say he should not seek re-election in 2011, a new Daily Monitor poll reveals.

Sixty-seven per cent of the respondents said they were either “satisfied” or “very satisfied” with the way Mr Museveni had led the country. However, asked whether President Museveni should stand for re-election next year, 68 per cent said “NO”.

Tamale Mirundi, please pass this on to our beloved

The music director was also at d top of his game. just before the restart, black eyed peas' 'i've got a feeling' played in d stadium.

More from the commentator:
-It's quite tiring to play without the ball, probably the worst tie for arsenal.
-Arsenal chasing shadows, they have neva won a European title and now Barca using arsenal to prepare for the el classico
-Arsenal haven't won a trophy since 2005 n now barca making sure it stays that way.
-Messi has developed a dangerous habit of making defenders look ordinary, look at how easily he turns Vermalaen
-My word, bow down before king Messi
-And Messi sticks it between almunia's legs just to remind arsenal that they could have scored many more if they wanted to
...

causes one to wonder why sylvestre was being benched in ManUtd..but hey, d professor knows best
Man of the match for arsenal - Gael Clichy
Man of the match for barcelona - __________ fill in d blank rachael (she's my 3yr old niece)

looks vs heart

'I know she's not much of a looker but once u knw her, u cant let her go.' 'The problem is dat u guys concentrate more on the looks n not d heart,' he adds in a self righteous tone.
Way to go, bruv...but let's agree to disagree on this one n fault me not for not being God, who can c d heart right away. Riddle me this tho, wen u c ha for the 1st tym, do u notice wat shade of black ha heart is? How do u find out that d heart is pretty?..... allow me to rephrase....wat draws u to say hello?
Is it not the fair skin, toned legs, pure seduction scent, etc? As i was growing up, my dad shared with me 5 fundamentals....allow me to pass them on. He said, 'If u bring home a gal as a wife to be, make sure she:
1. looks hot
2. is born again
3. isn't blonde
4. is hard working
5. isn't broke
n yeah, was in that order.
U c, tis not abt u having angel Gabriel's heart but look like a friend of mine's big toe, think that 'cobra' is d new old spice, have bows that van persie would b jealous of, etc
Tis not about u having d best motherly instincts n the most encouraging words to say n...
Yes, thoz do count...but tis also abt me holding my head up high wit u in my arm at a cocktail party, abt me not walking on the othr side of the road yet we are going to d sem destination n telling u i,m doing it so i can check u out n u buying d excuse, tis abt introducing u 2 my pals n have them shoot themselvz for failing to get thru to u....i cd go on
So my friend, d heart should b beautifully wrapped in a desirable package lest i am not inclined to saying hello n getting her number.
Make sense?
In a nut-shell, it helps to b Joan Murungi ....'nuf said
